My arrival in Istanbul in January 1987 after a long bus ride from Athens was a shock. Nothing could have prepared me for the noise and bustle of Istanbul’s bus station in the early morning. After a few moments of confusion, I found another bus that took me into the centre of Istanbul and dropped me off near to the Blue Mosque.
Memories of Istanbul include the magnificent Blue Mosques; fishermen on the Gallata Bridge; and the delights of the Pudding Shop, made famous by the film “Midnight Express”.
