Monastaries, Tibet
Now recovering from the damage inflicted by previous Chinese government forces, the monasteries of Tibet are a feast for the senses. The sound of monks praying; the scent of burning yak butter lamps; the contrast between the darkness of the shadows and the brilliance of the colour of murals; the brush of a Tibetan pushing through the crowds on his way to pray; and taste of the smoke rising from incense burners. It is hard not to feel sorry for the loss of the many monasteries that will never be rebuilt or repaired.
