Hidroelectrica, Peru
After a noisy overnight stay in the Santa Teresa nightclub cum campsite, we took the short minivan ride to Hidroelectrica with Jose, our diminutive cook. After a quick lunch, we all enjoyed the three-hour walk along the railway track to Aguas Calientes.
The town is small and a mere shadow of its former glory before the floods of 1998 when over 80km of the railway line was washed away between Aguas Calientes and Quillabamba (a huge coffee-producing town).
