Crossing the Mara river
This was taken in 2011 and shows part of a crossing of the Mara river of around 100,000 wildebeest and zebra. We estimated a 2% fatality rate, mainly due to drowning. A single crocodile killed a couple of young wildebeest, but seemed to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of animals that crossed. Some calves were crushed underfoot as they tried to climb the far bank.
