Having moved to Luxembourg to work for an international organisation, I decided to take a sabbatical and in 1987, took a flight from Luxembourg to Athens. From there, I made my way south through Turkey and  Israel to Egypt. From there, I flew to Pakistan. In Pakistan, I travelled north from Karachi, passing through Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar en route to Chitral in the North West Frontier province.

From Chitral, my route took me into China along the Karakoram Highway via Gilgit and Kashgar. Crossing China,  I picked up a steamer in Shanghai that was sailing to Hong Kong. From, there I slipped back into China - travelling to Chengdu, and thence to Lhasa by plane. Three months later, I crossed the Friendship Bridge into Nepal. From Kathmandu, it was just a hop and a skip to Thailand, and then again onwards to California via HawaiiThe travelling did not stop then - I was soon working in Europe, South America, North America and the Middle East. There were a few years when the camera stayed at home - but mostly the camera came too...
