Oman Dive Centre

Oman Dive Centre

The facilities provided include a secluded private beach, a beach restaurant (the Odyssey) open all day ; a well stocked diving shop (Seemann, Aqualung, Suunto, beach wear,...); Custom-built dive boats; full dive equipment hire and Nitrox fills; custom-built dive pool and peripheral activities; and beach-side. accommodation.

While the Moray eels were numerous, and the soft corals beautiful, the weather in Easter was less good. Strong winds limited diving and I got almost as wet travelling to the dive sites, as I did diving. The custom-built boats are small compared with dive-boats say in Phuket. Water and coffee was provided, as well as bananas. Not quite up to the lunches served in Thailand.

While the Omani dive crew were excellent, the staff running the dive centre were off hand and almost rude.

The dive centre always seemed to me to just operating in a state of chaos, especially in the 15 minutes before the dive boats set off.

The lack of a quay meant a long walk to the boats at low tide through knee deep water carrying your kit. A new dive centre was being built in the bay near to the Oman Dive Centre, but I was told that this was being built for the Shangri La Hotel.

The food in the restaurant was really good and excellent value.
