Bavaria is one of the best places in Germany to eat and drink beer. This year, Munich has been a bit of a home away from home, at least during the week. The city centre is an eclectic mix of old and new, with traditional buildings blending in well with the new. 

I had not expected to hear an angry crowd chanting “nazis aus”, but I did - in the centre of Munich. It was the 60 anniversary of the founding of Israel. About 50 black shirted men with shaved heads were being heckled by several thousand locals.

The atmosphere was tense with a large police contingent keeping the peace.
