1910-1900

My grandfather was born in Ireland and studied to become a doctor at Trinity College, Dublin. He joined the British Army and was soon posted out across the British Empire - Hong Kong, Singapore, India and eventually Egypt.

Whenever he could, he took time to travel to the counties closest to where he was based. He visited China in 1906 and spent three months in Japan in 1907. On that trip, he hired a horse and two men to carry his luggage. He loved taking photographs and took a camera with him on these trips:
